Ron Shiflett and his friends fished with us today and we finally had great weather. Seas were 2 to 3 ft, and we left the dock at 4:15am. As soon as the sun came up and gave us enough light we were able to cruise at full speed to the Rock Pile. We found a few gaffer dolphin before we put out the spread by pulling light tackle baits by the lobster pots. Always a fun thing to do when you want some quick action. The water was 77.6 deg and just a little green, but we were hopeful. We trolled the 30 fathom, 40 and 50 fathom lines and found no tuna. I decided to go out to the deep at 100 fathoms to try to find something big, tuna, bigeye, marlin, anything to give us a fight. Unfortunately, it didn't happen. We did find a pot that produced some more gaffer dolphin mostly between 10 and 20 pounds. After a while we tried again moving north but we couldn't make it happen. Ron and his crew asked if they could spend the rest of the day bailing dolphin. So we located some more pots and ended up with 14 real nice dolphin. We had a great time Ron and hope to see you again.

We had a decent day fishing although we had to troll quite a ways to get the fish. Capt Jeff took The Gary Stien party out. They started at the sausage lumps and ended up at the baltimore canyon, but when they got there they found a nice white marlin at 100 fathoms. On the way they picked up two real nice dolphin. One around 35 lb. Weather was nice for a change and we got some good pictures too. Gary is sending me some video and we should have that ready by next week. Gary has his own boat and fishes out of Solomons Island, so we were glad he could have a good day of fishing in the deep. Thanks Gary see you this fall in the bay.

This Saturday we took out the David Ellis party and had a decent day weather and fishing. Weather hasn't been good this year and the prediction wasn't too hot to say the least. We braced to get our butts kicked and went out. We went toward the rock pile 55 nautical miles off, and the closer we got the better the conditions got. We started out bailing some dolphin. Not like last year where you get to a pot and work it for a lot of big dolphin. They were decent, but hard to pick. We ended up with five in the 5 - 7 lb range before we started trolling. We worked the 50 fathom area with no results so we headed out. In about 80 fathoms we hit a large baitball and two rods went off. The Shimano 50 obviously had a smaller tuna or dolphin, but the Penn 80 had something big because it kept peeling line. We cleared the rods real quick after pulling in a False Albacore and began the fight. Unfortunately after about 15 minutes it came off the hook. Dissapointing to say the least, but at least we knew we had a real beast on. We continued out to 100 fathoms and hooked up on a nice white marlin, estimated at about 75 to 80 lb. We got that to the boat for a release. We have video, but not real good footage on the release. David Ellis is sending me a cd with his pictures so maybe we can put something together. Good job David we hope to see you next year.
