The Daydreamer is waiting to take your group or family on a trip into the Chesapeake Bay. A place where rockfish weighing as much as 50 pounds thrive. See the excitement of seabirds diving into the foray to eat the leftovers as big rockfish feed on baitfish. Watch the rods bend as we troll through the feeding schools. We could be trolling, livelining, chumming, maybe even kite fishing, the main thing is we are relaxing and having a good time on the Beautiful waters of the Chesapeake. The Daydreamer crew will do all we can to make your day an enjoyable one.

The cold weather is bringing cool water temperatures and the fish are getting active again. Bigger fish are being caught at the mouth of the choptank with limits being caught some overs 30". Even the ones under 28" are fat. The big ones are on the way. Some of the charters south of us are coming back with trophy sized fish and we are expecting that to happen very soon in the middle bay.

After a great early July of fishing the Daydreamer is at Shipwright Harbour in Deale, MD. We lost another rudder. This is the 4th rudder in 8 years. We called High Tide Marine and they said that it was common for the 35 and 38 Bertrams. They make the rudder by starting with a 1 3/4" shaft and machining it down to 1 1/4" a few inches above the blade and this is where they break. Kastel Brothers in St Michaels is making a set with 1 3/4 shaft all the way through the hull to the rudder shelf. This is overkill, but we will never have to worry about losing another rudder.

Fishing has been good for the month of June for the most part. We had a slow day (only one fish per person), and a real slow day (only one fish with some throwbacks), but most of the trips produced limits plus, or near limits, with a few releases. The bait of choice this week has finally changed to planers, with drone spoons. Some boats will also be using eels with planers, but this morning they would't leave the metal alone. We do run an eel on the wayback, and had about a 35 incher come all the way up to the boat just to pull off, just before it got to the net. The class of fish you see in the pictures will be around all summer, but soon they will be hard to catch because the bluefish will grab the bait before they can get to it.

Beautiful Memorial Day weekend. We ran two trips Saturday and one trip Sunday. All were successful with limits and lots of releases, great crews and lots of laughs. The fish have stabilized into the summer stock of 18 to 22 inch range. Out largest was 33" which is large for this time of year. Storm lures seem to be the preference. If you're going on your own, make sure you bring a variety, because the colors change daily Saturday white caught the most. Sunday it went from grey to chartreuse/green, to chartreuse with sparkle in the afternoon. Most of our fish were caught behind the gooses although a lot of boats caught at #81 to #82 and at the false channel.

Last weekend was interesting. on wednesday we had the electronics go out and couldn't get them back on for the next three trips. Friday, Saturday and Sunday we fished with no chart plotter, radar, or fish finder. We did have a backup GPS and radio. All we did was fish our favorite spots and we limited out all three days. Jim captained Friday and Sunday and I captained Saturday. All three days the weather was beautiful and the fish cooperated. you can't ask for better than that. See the gallery for Saturday's pictures. If anyone for from Friday or Sunday's charters want to share a picture please email them.

Opening day of Trophy Rockfishing season was blown out by this weekends weather, but Sunday turned out drop-dead georgeous. With small craft warnings and the prediction of gale force winds in late-morning, we fished all day with two parties on an almost perfect day. It got a little sporty around 10am, but after about 45 minutes of 2-3 ft seas it calmed down to 1-2 ft the rest of the day. The fish were scattered and we had to hunt, but with both parties we found them and got our limits plus.

I got a call yesterday saying that my last news posting could indicate that the Daydreamer was only available on weekends. The Daydreamer is available 7 days a week, so if you want a booking in the middle of the week we are open. I only meant that the weekends fill up first especially during the Trophy season. The Daydreamer is back in the water now and within a few hours, will be back in it's slip at the Rod n' Reel. I'll be there working on it the next two days so stop by and say hello if you have time.
